  • Sadie Gray(One Life to Live) portrayed by Lillian Hayman(1968-1971, 1971-1986) and Esther Rolle(1971).

One of the first Black characters on OLTL, Sadie Gray was a maid to the Lord family and later head of housekeeping at Llanview Hospital. The storyline most famous of Sadie is the one involving her daughter Clara Gray(later known as Carla Benari) which will be detailed in a later post. Lillian Hayman worked on OLTL until she, and almost all of the other Black actors on the show, was abruptly fired in the 1980s by the then-Executive Producer Paul Rauch.
